Vera is a very historic but at the same time lively little town with supermarkets, shops, banks, bars and restaurants. The town hall is from the 16th century and the Church dates from 1512.
The original town was destroyed by an earthquake in 1518 archaeological excavations are ongoing to discover what life was like then. The City Council of Vera , with the collaboration of the Provincial Council, has released the audiovisual production "Vera, where my land reaches the sea".
La Geoda y la Mina Rica is the largest in Europe. The crystal cave is a major attraction in the Pilar de Jaravía area due to its size and the transparency of the rocks.
It is located 50 meters beneath Mina Rica, a silver mine that closed in the 1960s.
La Sierra del Aguilón has been a mining area all throughout history. Contemporary mining begins in 1840 with the use of trenches and silver galena cuts. After 1870, iron extraction starts taking place. Although it seemed as if Mina Rica was forgotten, in 1999 it regains popularity thanks to the discovery of the largest mineral geode in Europe. 20 years later, Mina Rica’s reopening project allows everyone to appreciate the wonderful heritage Pulpí’s miners left us with.
Cuevas de Sorbasare also worth a visit, ideal for a break from the sun! In the “Karst en Yesos de Sorbas” Natural Park there are more than 1,000 cavities excavated in plaster, with a large number of galleries full of stalactites and stalagmites, and with kilometers of galleries excavated in the gypsum rock, a crystalline rock that reflects light of the helmets of those who visit them.

Luna cable parkat Cuevas de Almanzora is another great fun for all the family activity. Why not learn wakeboarding and take home a new skill. They also offer Aqua glide a floating obstacle course for ages 5+. Kayaks. Sup boards for aqua yoga. “Ninja Park” which is an outdoor workout zone that offers an exciting range of activities to test your endurance, strength and ingenuity in planning an efficient exercise circuit.
There is loads to see with all sorts of activities using the facilities, there is even a Chiringuito kitchen and bar.
Aquavera great fun for all the family in summer is located at Vera Playa.Try Kamikaze, 130 metres long and 11 metres high, not for the feint hearted. Aquodrome, a four lane slide and 148 metres, challenge the family. With over a dozen slides, pools and play areas you won't want to leave.
Beach Tennis can be learnt and played locally, another great fun activity for all the family. Indalo Beach tennis is located at Vera Playa. Beach Tennis has its origins in several places around the world, including Brazil, Italy and Spain, and has greatly developed as a game over the past 25-30 years. Beach Tennis is a cross between tennis, beach volleyball and badminton. It’s a fun sport suitable for all ages and abilities, ideal for families, groups of friends, leisure as well as professional players. It’s very easy to play and has real health benefits.
Centro Deportivo de Puerto Rey provides numerous activities, gym, yoga, golf and mini golf, childrens play areas, padel tennis, tennis, pilates and loads more.
Mariposario de Nijar a fantastic butterfly park in Nijar, about 30 minutes away. Guided tours take about 30 mins and at the weekends there is drawing and coloring activities for the little ones.
Oasys Minihollywood theme park. In Tabernas, the only desert in Europe, there are authentic western scenarios, which have been turned into the most original Mediterranean Theme Park with live shows, a huge zoological reserve with more than 800 animals of 200 different species, pool areas and a large range of restaurants. There is also Fort Bravo the cinema studios where many western movies have been filmed. Movies from the 60´s, when Sergio Leone discovered Tabernas and filmed his great spaguetti westerns.
The cinema scenarios are 100% original in the middle of the Tabernas Desert. At present, Fort Bravo receives many productions of films, movies, ads, shorts, music videos and many international films. Recent filmings include Game of Thrones and Dr Who.

Mojacar is a very popular tourist destination, miles of fantastic clean beaches with literally hundreds of international cuisine restaurants. The jewel is the white washed village sitting above the coastal town. The village was virtually deserted in the 1960's but people were encouraged to come and live for free if they improved the houses which had become neglected. The attracted a bohemian collection of artists and musicians and the pueblo retains this atmosphere even today.
Most of the towns and villages in Almeria have market day once a week, Vera's market is very large and is on Saturdays. Inland there are lots of mountain villages to explore and along the coast is Garrucha, about 10-15 mins away, a working fishing town where you can watch the days catch be auctioned, have a stroll along the excellent promenade and then enjoy dinner at one of the many open air seafood restaurants.
